Benchmark Testing

Cornerstone

Cornerstone gives you an edge on standardized testing. By having access to real-time performance data from every student, you can diagnose an entire district instantly. Cornerstone also simplifies the administration and grading of common assessments, which makes it easy to test often. With instant data and streamlined test administration you can address problems while there’s still time.

Created using next-generation assessment technology, this powerful software compiles data on common assessments. The program’s Dashboard function then analyzes the data to pinpoint academic weaknesses by district, school, classroom, subject, even demographics. This detailed information gives you the resources you need to help schools improve their performance. And since Cornerstone makes it easy to administer assessments, you can test as often as needed.

With Cornerstone you can create and distribute tests and gather results electronically. Here’s how it works:

The curriculum director creates an assessment and distributes it electronically to the appropriate teacher group. It’s easy to create new assessments or to use existing assessments with Cornerstone.

Students take the assessment with paper, pencil, and CPS response pad. This way students can respond instantly and have a record of their answers.

The assessment is graded automatically and uploaded to the campus and/or district Cornerstone Dashboard. Since grading is automated by CPS, the information is up-to-the-minute. The Cornerstone Dashboard gives a graphical representation of the results that is rich and easy to understand.

You’re immediately given results that you can act on.

Short Cycle Assessments and Data
Rio Rancho Mid-High School, Science

Short cycle assessments are short multiple choice tests, usually ten to twenty questions that quickly assess student understanding of the power standards. The short cycle questions represent essential tasks that are matched to the power standards within the state standards (Martins, 2005). These assessments provide evidence of student attainment of the power standards. The resulting data is systematically collected in the Rio Rancho eighth grade science by use of CPS clickers, which are the hand-held devices students manipulate to record their choices. The resulting data is posted on line for teachers and administrators to view, and is then examined and used by the eighth grade science staff to improve instruction (Reeves, 2001).
